I sent the following to my MP, and invite other people to send
similar letters to their MPs.
I also added in specific banners to digital-copyright.ca and my
flora.ca templates. I decided not to go black, given these sites offer
information in opposition with these policy directions.

I wanted to send you a note on the official SOPA/PIPA blackout day.
I know this is US law, but the same backward thinking exists in
Canadian political circles, and the US special interests often author
policy which is then implemented in Canada. The access control
technological measures part of Bill C-11 is only one example among many,
and the same anti-competitive technology companies behind C-11's
Paracopyright provisions are manipulating the Trans-Pacific Partnership
We need to move away from this thinking. We should not be making
radical changes to the way that technology works in oder to "solve" a
a) Isn't solved by these laws which seek to radically change technology
b) Was not caused by the modern technology that is being targeted
c) Is not as serious as alleged. Reduced revenues, where they exist
at all, can be better attributed to competitive forces and "not
available for sale" problems long before infringement has an impact.
Thank you. I am always available to discuss these issues, whether
the general policy problems or a specific initiative.
