NEW WATERFRONT BIKE TOUR
The Waterfront Trail is a recreational path that runs from Niagara-on-the-Lake all
the way along the north shore of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River to the
Quebec border. This summer, trail managers are planning an eight-day, 680-
kilometre bicycle trip that covers the entire distance. The trip runs July 4 to 11 and
organizer Ian Lobb says he hopes it will become an annual event. Riders will cover
between 31 and 124 kilometres each day. There will be technical support and
luggage will be transported between destinations. Families with children have the
option of doing shorter distances, Lobb says, and it's also possible to sign up for a
single day of riding rather than do the whole tour. "It's more like a moving festival
than a bike ride," said Lobb, adding that communities along the way are planning
celebrations when the cyclists pass through. Registration fees range from nothing
for children younger than 10 to $400 for an adult doing the entire week; there are
discounts if you register before April 1. See waterfronttrail.org for more.
