Still messy, how about:

    THAT technical protection measures (TPMs), as implemented by copyright holders, have 
    caused problems such as invading end users privacy, preventing consumers from enjoying 
    content on devices and software of their independent choice, and installing rootkits which 
    open personal computers to internet crimiinals (eg, Sony-BMG RootKit fiasco).
