Again passing on a quote form Brewster Kahle.  Seems that the U of 
Toronto has been working on using a robot system to make scans of book 
that can be viewed as either JPGs or with a java applet.

They are currently working on a large number of French books, which 
should be helpful to "candian Heritages" Goal of having more French 
content on the web.
