I'd still appreciate opinions on these points, please :
1. Whether the pleading should include "private copying".
2. Whether the pleading should include "control of your own devices".
3. The wording of the third claim ("THAT dissemination...").
I've been thinking of rewording this along these lines :
THAT the preservation of Canadian culture requires that works be
stored in a form that can be accessed by future generations of
Canadians;

Here's one alternative to the pleading currently in the draft:
>THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon Parliament to ensure 
>generally that users are recognised as interested parties 
>and are meaningfully consulted about proposed changes to 
>the Copyright Act and to ensure in particular that any 
>changes at least preserve all existing users' rights, 
>including the right to use copyrighted materials under Fair 
>Dealing. We further call upon Parliament to recognise the 
>right to personally control your own communication devices 
>and not to extend the term of copyright.
