This is one of the best articles I've read in a while comparing software
creation to traditional creators such as artists, musicians, and
journalists.

Like a form of literacy education which makes writing and other creating
more accessible to the public, the Free/Libre and Open Source Software
movement is doing this for software creation. Recording industry
executives want to outlaw music creation and distribution devices that
they do not control. The software industry has "been there and done that"
with what I call "software manufacturing" (companies like Microsoft) and
is now fighting back.
It is because software creators can see what will go wrong when business
executives control the creative process that many of us software creators
have become strong creators' rights advocates. Hopefully one day the
synergies will be understood and all creators will be more clearly working
on the same team.
(Note: This posting is based on a letter I sent to other creators I know
in the copyright reform process. Should be interesting to see if this
helps make better connections between creator communities)

politicians should be bought. -- http://www.flora.ca/russell/
