These "statistics" of loss due to piracy have no scientific basis 
whatsoever.

It's natural for companies to try to maximise their profit, 
especially if the costs are borne by the public, e.g. pollution, and 
to promote their interests as far as possible. Enlightened self-
interest is rare.

It seems to me like this survey is part of an industry campaign for 
stronger laws and enforcement of what they consider their "rights."
