I do not get it.
Just because bits can be copied, does not change anything.
Let there be three countries: A B C with equal productivity. Each
country products one hit song per citizen.
A has population four, produces four songs.
B has population five, produces five songs.
C has population two, produces two songs.
There are at most 11 songs available.
Each country has fewer people than other countries put together.
If each country pulls down 11 songs, then:
For A: exports 4 songs * 2 countries -> 8 songs
imports 5 + 2 songs -> 7 songs
A is net exporter.
For B: exports 5 songs * 2 countries -> 10 songs
imports 4 + 2 songs -> 6 songs
B is net exporter.
For C: exports 2 * 2 countries -> 4 songs
imports 4 + 5 songs -> 9 songs
C is net importer.
I simply do not see what the files being electronic has to do with it.
Yes, the citizens of A,B and C can either import the song directly or they
can share it among themselves. Assuming a napster like sharing with equal
participation, it seems as likely that I'll download from a foreign person as
local person (assuming that the network is still screwed when it comes to
there being typically more bandwidth to people physically closer).
So, explain this to me.
